A Renewed Story of Superman

Just watched Man of Steel in the theater of my university today, though I wasn't a fan of Superman. As long as Christopher Nolan's name shows on the screen, it is a must-see to me.

I have to say that overall it is a good movie. As an introductory part of a new Superman series, it gives out some good features that make me looking forward to the sequels. But also because of the same reason that it is a start of a renewed Superman story, the movie has been assigned to provide too much background information within 2 hours. This fact has made the pace of the movie hard to manage.

I guess that is why the movie proceeds in a somewhat disordered way. The pace is too fast that it lacks the basic interestingness and entertainment as a super hero movie. The transitions between plots are not fluent and convincing enough to bring me, as an audience, into the following situations. Also the role of Louis fits in weirdly. It seems that she had committed a lot to the process of following the myth of Clark, and then all of a sudden she chose to believe in and support him without giving a reason that is strong enough for the audiences to follow.

I like Amy Adams as an actress. She's got a lot of great performances in movies. But this movie hasn't given her enough space to show her talent. All they need is a seemingly wise girl with eyes filled with beliefs and tears, who are always standing there helping and comforting Superman.

Except all the imperfections, I do love the fighting parts of the movie and that it gives plenty of time for the characters to fight. All of them are basically dropping and throwing everything they have (including themselves) to make explosions and strikes. There are some very nice pictures during the fight between Superman and Zod too.
